Merrill Davis Gillespie was promoted to be with
the Lord on Nov. 2, 1998. She was a loving wife,
mother, grandmother and sister. She had been
a resident of Aston Park Health Care for the last
year. She was preceded in death by her
husband, James (J.T.) Gillespie; her father, M.H.
Davis and her mother, Maude Davis; four
brothers, Claude M. Davis, Grover H. Davis,
Marshall R. Davis, Ralph J. Davis and sister,
Mary R. Roberts.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn G.
Payne; son-in-law, David A. Payne; 3
grandchildren, Kimberly Ammons, Scott Payne
and Alicia Payne, all of Asheville; 6 great-
grandchildren, Autumn, Stephanie, Zachary,
Isaac, Jacob and Taylor; 2 brothers, Paul A.
Davis of Virginia, Fred Davis of Asheville; 2
sisters, Johnnie Ball of Tennessee and Margaret
Brooks of Asheville.
Graveside services will be held at Pisgah View
Memorial Park on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998 at
2:30 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Steve Harris.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to
the American Cancer Society or the American
Heart Association.

arrangements.
