Merrill K. Hensley, 62, of 172 Pete Luther Road, Candler, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his home. Mr. Hensley was born in Buncombe County and was a son of Gratis Banks Hensley of Asheville and the late John S. Hensley. He attended Western Carolina University where he was a charter member of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity. He then worked as a dairy farmer for twenty years and was twice named Buncombe County “Outstanding Young Farmer” by the Farm Bureau. In 1980 he retired from farming and went into the trucking business, becoming co-owner with his wife of K&M Enterprises. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Katherine Parker Hensley; one daughter, LaTisha Taylor and her husband Calvin of Candler, and three grandchildren, Courtney, Mitchell and Christopher Taylor. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Burial will be at West Memorial Park, Weaverville. His family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
