Mildred Ann Hooker, of Asheville, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Mildred was born on September 18, 1935 in Emporia, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph F. Hooker, Jr., who is remembered as a loving husband and father.

She leaves her daughter, Elizabeth McElreath (Douglas), of Lake Junaluska; sons, John W. Hooker (Kim), of Chapel Hill, NC, Larry Hooker (Kathy) of Asheville, NC, and Tony Hooker, also of Asheville; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She had many loving nieces and nephews, and many precious friends in Christ.

A funeral service for her family will be held in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Saturday, January 14, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Nancy Dixon Walton of Trinity United Methodist Church of Asheville NC

The family will greet friends immediately following the service.

Private burial will be at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her honor to Four Seasons Hospice or to The American Cancer Society.

  2. My husband Tom and I met Mildred and Tony 20+ years ago and immediately felt a spirtual connection. It has been or pleasure and honor to have known such a loving, caring and incredibly sweet woman. Our hearts go out to her family who have lost so very much with her passing.
