Mildred Louise Hovis Brown, 89, of Arden, died Monday, November 17, 2014, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek.
Born in Gastonia on December 26, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Blair and Lonnie Watts Hovis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Riley Marshall Brown, Sr., a granddaughter, Kimberly Diana Cole, and by a brother, Harold Hovis.
Mrs. Brown worked in the Erwin High School cafeteria for twenty years. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughters, Diana B. Lamm and husband, Roney, and Patricia B. Cole and husband, Perry; and sons, Riley M. Brown, Jr. and wife, Janet, and James E. Brown and wife, Karen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Revs. Larry Sprinkle and Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
