Mildred Parrish Tompkins

Asheville - Mildred Parrish Tompkins, 76, of the Western North Carolina Baptist Home, died Sunday, December 29, 2002. A native of Bennettsville, SC, she was a the daughter of the late Carroll and Emma Pope Parrish. She was a member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church in Oakley. She is survived by her husband, Gayle Coy Tompkins; daughter, Carol Wallen of Fletcher; son, Steve Tompkins of Orlando, Florida; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Wallen of Fletcher, Jessica Tompkins of Merritt Island, Fla., Kendred Wallen of Fletcher and Rachel Tompkins of Radford, Virginia. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Randy Melton. Burial will be in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard. Her family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
