Mindy Lucinda Duckett

mindy duckett
Mindy Lucinda Duckett, 27, of Leicester, was called home on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the John F. Keever Solace Center, after battling a lifelong illness with Cystic Fibrosis. She was the daughter of James M. “Buddy,” and Patricia A. Duckett. She is also survived by her sister, Kelly Duckett Monk and husband Travis, and their daughter, Taylyn Lucinda Monk, of Morganton, NC; grandmothers, Pauline Duckett, of Leicester, and Sarah Arrowood, of Enka; her many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her precious dog, Angel. Mindy was preceded in death by her sister, Tanya Lynnea Duckett; and her two papaws, Cornelius Wayne Arrowood, and Fred Oakley Duckett. Mindy was a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School, class of 1997. She proudly worked as a CNA at The Oaks until health no longer allowed it. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. To all of our friends, family, church, doctors, and community, we thank you for your years of love, help, and support. A special thanks to Dr. Clark McIntosh, for without him, we would not have had her for as long as we did. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. Jack W. Collins and Bobby Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 6-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the North Carolina Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2301 Stonehenge Drive, Raleigh, NC 27615.

  1. Buddy, Tricia, Kelly,
I went to School with miny and was one of her CNA’s at Pisgah Manor. If I was having a bad day and went into her room she always seemed to make things better for me. Even though she is in a much better place now having no pain she is going to be missed. I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  16. There is nothing that I could say to alleviate your loss. The best I can do is to quote a poem that that has helped me through in the past.

    Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me and if you want to, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
    All is well.

  17. Buddy, Tricia, and Kelly,

That’s what keeps us going.
    Love and many,many prayers.
    Freda and Donnie

  18. Dear Buddy, Tricia, Kelly, Travis, and Taylyn:
Mindy meant the world to me, she and Kelly were the sisters I never had. It pains me that she had to go thru so much pain near the end of her life, but what a joyful reunion she had with both her papaws, Tanya, and Kim. One day we will walk with her again, even though that day cannot come soon enough for us, I know that she is happy, healthy, and finally breathing normally. She loved each of you so much and I think that is why she fought so hard to stay here with us. From conversations I had with her she also new how much each of you loved her. I miss every minute but am so glad that I have the promise of seeing her again. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Love, Jill

  21. To Buddy, Trish and Kelly
What a fiesty young lady Mindy was. I will always remember the great times Brooke and Mindy shared and the enjoyment we had when she was here visiting. Dan and I enjoyed her being here. We remember her adorable smile and giggle. I will never forget when we moved to our new house when I fell down the steps. Mindy and Brooke stood at the top of the steps. I was moaning and they were giggling! She was such an inspiration to everyone, and loved by all who knew her. Brooke loved her so much and enjoyed helping take care of her. She will be missed by all, but is now in the arms of God. You will be in our thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

  22. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mindy but I heard a lot of wonderful things about her from Dixie. She spoke of her couragous battle with disese and how she fought hard and lived happy. I regret not ever getting the chance to meet her. I know she is in no pain and is now living, smiling and happy…in a much better place. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

  23. Buddy–Tricia–Kelly– We are so sorry about Mindy’s passing. Knowing she is in a better place may not help to much now but we can go there to see her someday soon. We loved Mindy so much. The time she and Tifani were in the padgent together was so much fun. Her smile was the winner for sure. We love you guys and our prayers and thoughts go out to all of you. WE LOVE YOU MINDY

  24. Buddy, Tricia and Kelly,

You know how much we all loved Mindy and I hope you know how much we love you all. I will miss our banter over who is the least normal in the family. We had so much fun. Mindy’s passing is not in vain, she touched so many lives, and she made a difference. My grand daughter who loved and adored Mindy believes that Mindy got her wings and that is the reason for all of this wind. She’s making good use of them. We are here for you and we will walk each step with you remembering so many good times. God has got her and we pray for your faith in knowing this!!

  31. I only knew Mindy through my good friend, Dixie. I’m sorry I never had the priviledge of meeting such an incredibly strong and very special young lady. Dixie spoke of her with such love and admiration. I have a niece with cerebral palsey so I can relate to how special these young ladies really are. My heart goes out to all the family for your loss. I know that Mindy’s 27 years with you has given you a life time of love.

  34. I am deeply saddened by Mindy’s passing. I found out thru friends far too late to come pay my respects properly. I knew Mindy before kindergarten, and was ver close to her even sfter high school. I moved away about 10 years ago. I don’t keep in touch with many people in Asheville anymore, and regret that I am just now signing this guestbook on the internet. Buddy, and Pat, please accept my appologies for not being there. I know Mindy is in a much better place now. I miss her greatly.

  35. I found Mindy’s name in my bible today, I hoped for a miracle, and found this.
I know she’s always in your heart. Just as you are always in mine.
    The Bishop family 💜
