Morris Clinton Parham, 80, of 1644 Bear Creek Road, Leicester, went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 16, 2004. Mr. Parham was born February 19, 1923, in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Clifford C. and Fannie Mae Parham. He was also preceded in death by a grandson David Rathburn, III. Mr Parham was an Army veteran of WW II, serving with Company G, Second Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, First Infantry Division (Big Red 1), through North Africa, Sicily and England. He participated in the Normandy Invasion, Bastone and Belgium. After leaving the Army he worked as a truck driver and a farmer. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emma Ivory Penland Parham; one daughter, Carolyn Baldwin and her husband Charles of Asheville; one son, Calvin Parham and his wife Sue of Asheville; one granddaughter Janet McDevitt and her husband Andy of Leicester; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Joshua McDevitt; and a sister Lillian Stiles of Leicester: brothers Paul of Leicester, Ernest of Texas, and Harold, Vernon, and Kenneth Parham, all of Leicester; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday at 6:00 PM in the Patton Ave Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverends Burl Ledford and Tony Cook officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday at Mountain View Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Mr. Donald Shuford officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Care, Adult Day Service Center, 68-A Sweeten Creek Rd. Asheville, NC 28803.

  1. My Family,Mike & Hilda Teague and my sister and I used to visit with Morris and Ivy when we were young children and teenagers. Morris was always so nice to us. There was always talk about God and his goodness. I always loved his Dad and Mother as we sang in different churches with them. God bless you all during this time, as I have already been this journey losing both my parents and know how difficult it is but we will meet them again to all sing in that Heavenly Choir.   2. I cant belive that Morris has been gone for over a year now. I cant belive that my grandfather has been gone for almost 2 years. Pop thought so much of Morris. I will always remember him Being so sweet to my sister and I when we were growing up. I know words dont make it any easier but we all know that he is in a better place! He will no longer suffer! Ivory I love you so much, you are in my prayers!
