Mrs. McKinney was born in Buncombe County, was a daughter of the late Leroy and Maggie Rutledge Sherlin, and was married for 69 years f o James Earnest McKinney, who died in 1997. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Sue Carrigan.
She is survived by eight daughters, Dorothy Wike, Betty Sherlin, Geneva Chandler, Myrtle Brown, Mae Maynor, Maggie McKinney, Gladys Fountain, and Jeanie Hollifield; three sons, David, Sam and James McKinney; 40 grandchidlren, 63 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Donald N. Welborn officiating.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to one's favorite charity.
