Myrtle Vance Poindexter, 88, of 29
Pine Lane, Asheville, died
Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998.

A native of Bluff City, Tenn., she
was a resident of Asheville for most
of her life.   She was the daughter of
the late Tom and Dora Carrier
Vance and wife of the late Frank
Weldon Poindexter, who died in
1971.

Mrs. Poindexter retired from the
Asheville Water Department as
supervisor in April, 1975 with 27
years service.  She was a charter
member of West Asheville Baptist
Church and a member of the
Victory Bible Class.

She is survived by a daughter,
Mary Frances Ball of Asheville; a
sister, Edith Koontz of Asheville;
four grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.

Services will be 11 am Saturday in
the chapel of Groce Funeral Home
conducted by the Rev. Drs. James
H. Johnson and John T. Tiller.
Interment will be in Riverside
Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for
one hour prior to the service at the
funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be made to the Building Fund of
West Asheville Baptist Church, 926
Haywood Road, Asheville, NC
28806.
