Resided in:
Leicester, NC
Sadly, Nancy Blanks-Bisson died October 30, 2010. Born June 26, 1931 Nancy started life in humble circumstances, dropping out of high school to get married at the age of 17. Nancy did not see impediments, but opportunities.
During her wonderful life, she provided home and stability to hundreds of foster children and participated in complex international developments. Nancy was the first woman Director of the Peace Corps in Micronesia and Fiji during the 1970's. For seven years, she was the Save the Children Director for the eastern US, based in Asheville, NC.
Nancy loved life, all children, her grandson Joe, her home, her garden, and her work throughout her life. Nancy had a big heart and loved to help people. And, she loved her four children.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on December 4, 2010, at her home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name should be made to Save the Children. For directions and questions for the celebration of her life, please call her home at (828)683-9466 and leave a message. We will return your call.
My heartfelt condolences to the family of Nancy, especially to Joe, the great joy in her life. I was honored to have come to know Nancy in the last year she was with us. I dearly loved Nancy and will miss her greatly.
Her life was a great tribute to serving others. She left the world a better place. What more can be said!
Nancy was a friend to all. We feel honored to know her and cherish her memories. Many lives have been blessed by the kind heart of Nana.
We love you.
I’m so sorry that I missed the last few years of her life. She meant SO much to me and my family … with the Peace Corps in Fiji, and, then, in Micronesia … before we moved on to the Philippines. I wish I would tried harder to reconnect with her before she died.
