nancy mclennan

December 22, 1958 ~ October 12, 2021

Born in: Chicago, IL
Resided in: Mills River, NC

Nancy Boerman McLennan, 62, of Mills River went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 surrounded by her family at home after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Joseph Erwin Boerman and the late Wilma Bright Boerman.

She worked at John Brown University, Lutheran General Hospital, and Blue Ridge Community College before having children and becoming a homemaker. Nancy was a member of Biltmore Church in Arden. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was the “hostess with the mostest.” She loved her life in the beautiful North Carolina mountains.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 43 years, Gordon Scott McLennan; 2 adored children, daughter Amber McLennan Hix (son-in-law Joshua R. Hix) and son Taylor Scott McLennan (daughter-in-law Lauren E. McLennan); 4 cherished grandchildren, Hugh Hudson Hix, Rowan Emery McLennan, Henry Richards Hix, and Declan Scott McLennan; 2 older brothers, Joseph E. Boerman, Jr. and Robert W. Boerman. She loved her brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, and her 18 nieces and nephews, as well as their families very much. Her mother-in-law, Jeanne McLennan, was like a mother to her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Hills Church in Candler. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lake Hills Church, 370 Lake Drive, Biltmore Lake, NC 28715. One of the most important things to Nancy was that her grandchildren grow up to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The family feels that donations to the church where her children and grandchildren attend is what she would have wanted.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My condolences to Gordy, Amber, Taylor, Uncle Joe, and all the grandchildren and siblings in the passing of Nancy. I especially have many fond memories of her when she and her family came to visit in Eastern NC from far away Illinois when we were growing up. Her mother was my mother’s sister. She is now in the blessed eternity of God, in which we can all take comfort.

  2. Dear Amber,
Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family at this time and in the weeks and months to come. Your mother was so sweet and shared the Gospel of Christ with everyone she came in contact within her daily life and also with her fight with lleukemia. Love you and sending hugs to you and Josh, Hugh and Henry, and the rest of your family!

Love Aunt Teresa and Uncle David.
