Nancy Christine Pope, 84, formerly of 58 Bull Mountain Road, Asheville, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at a local nursing home.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late William Rufus Lyerly II and Addie Mae Brown Lyerly. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Eugene Pope, who died in 1991; a son, Stephen Sherrill Pope, who died in 2001 and an infant daughter. Mrs. Pope was retired from the US Marshall’s Office and had also been employed by the National Climatic Data Center and the US Forest Service. She was a volunteer at ABCCM and a charter member of Groce United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Pope is survived by a loving granddaughter, Gina Christine Pope of Maryville, TN ; two sisters-in-law, Faye Pope Roberts of Asheville and Margaret Pope Penland of Kingsport, TN; a number of nieces and nephews including Elaine Snyder of Asheville and a devoted friend, Mary Elizabeth Cook of Asheville.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at Groce United Methodist Church with the Reverend Carl Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Pope was a very wise and loving lady. She always encouraged me and told me that she prayed for me daily. I will really miss her, but I know that I will see her again in heaven.
