Newton C. McKinney

Mr. McKinney was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, was a son of the late Dwight and Elsie C. McKinney and was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary McKinney.
He was co-owner of McKinney Radio and TV until 1978, after which he held various jobs. He was a charter member of the Buncombe County Rescue Squad and member of the Johnston Lions Club and the Asheville Stamp Club. He was also an Eagle Scout and worked with handicapped boy scouts.
Mr. McKinney is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sarah H. McKinney; sons, Jimi McKinney of Asheville, Phil McKinney and his wife Charlene of Clover, SC, and John Austin McKinney of the home; two grandchildren, Chris McKinney of the US Marine Corps and Meghann McKinney of Clover; and a special niece Alice Kuykendall.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Monday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kim Higgins officiating.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ones favorite charity or to Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 277 Oak Hill Road, Candler, NC 28715.
