Mrs. Coleman was a native of Madison County, a daughter of the late Julius C. and Belva Anderson Roberts, and was the wife of the late Harry B. Coleman. She was a graduate of Asheville Normal and Teachers College, Cecil’s Business College, and she received her Master of Education Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
As a former elementary school teacher and remedial reading specialist, Mrs. Coleman touched the lives of thousands of students during her forty years of teaching. She spent her early teaching years in Madison County, NC. While teaching in Dearborn, MI, for many years, she served as Director of the Reading Improvement Service. While a resident of St. Petersburg, FL, she taught for many years in the Pinellas County school system prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Pinellas County Retired Teachers Association, a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Lee Roberts, and two sisters, Mamie Roberts Keller and Pauline Roberts Nix.
She is survived by two sisters, Jean Roberts Briggs of Asheville and Ruth Roberts Oettinger of Albemarle, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Lake Julian chapel of Groce Funeral Home, 72 Long Shoals Road, Skyland. The Revs. Arnie Corriher and Christy Sharp will officiate.
The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service.
