Nona Wayne Houston, 87, of Asheville, died Monday, October 24, 2011, at St. Joseph Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Tupelo, MS, she was a daughter of the late R.A. and Vernie Lessel Kitchen. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Farrell Kitchen. Mrs. Houston was a resident of Buncombe Co. for the last 10 years. She was a former member of East Heights Baptist Church in Tupelo, MS, and currently was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Roy Houston, Sr.; a son, the Rev. Roy Houston and wife Dana of Candler; grandchildren Lisa Holland and Lori Halyburton; great-grandchildren Levi and Caroline Holland; sisters Mildred Gore, Betty Young, and Dorothy Kettleman, all of Mississippi; and brothers Travis Kitchen of CT, and Charles Kitchen and Murle Kitchen of Mississippi. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at New Morgan Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donnie Henson officiating. Her family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2011, at Lee Memorial Park in Mississippi. Memorials may be made to the New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 370 Lake Dr., Candler, NC 28715.
