Orville Woodrow “Hoover” Wilkes, 76, of 547 Eliada Home Road, Asheville, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at his home. A native of Sylva, he was a son of the late James and Dovie Crawford Wilkes. He was a retired welder and a US Army veteran. Survivors include his wife Barbara Rhodes Wilkes; a son, Michael A. Wilkes of Cullowhee; five step children, Allan Turbyfill of Maine, Gregory Turbyfill of Canton, Keith Turbyfill and Karlya Buckner of Asheville and Sonya Chaffins of West Virginia; 15 step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home.
