Paul K. Bailey, 85, of Asheville, died Monday, January 16, 2006. Mr. Bailey was born in McDowell County and was a son of the late Donald and Lessie Payne Bailey. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Elsie Bailey, who died in 1995, and by sisters, Edna Gasperson and Pearl Penland, brothers, Frank, Lindsey, and Troy Bailey, son-in-law, Rev. Carl Robinson, daughter-in-law, Wanda Bailey, and a great-grandson, Dillon Bailey. He was the founder and owner of Bailey’s Garage and was a member of Inanda Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Sarah Robinson of Asheville and Colleen Creson and her husband, Doug, of Asheville; two sons, Richard Bailey and his wife, Ann, of Weaverville and Clifford Bailey and his wife, Mildred, of Gatlinburg, TN; one sister, Pauline Lance of Arden; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Claude Surrett, Bobby Smith, and John Honeycutt officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Mausoleum. His family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and at other times will be at the home of his daughter, Sarah Robinson. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  2. Dear Richard and Clifford, while your hearts are so heavy with the loss of your father, remember how fortunate you are to have had such a fine, soft spoken man for a dad. I treasure my 40 year friendship with him and will miss him.

  3. Through the many years Elsie babysat for our children we enjoyed visiting with Paul, when he was there, when we picked up our children. Both he and Elsie were wonderful people. Now, they are together. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
