Paula Lois Jones Miall, 83, of Asheville, died Sunday, September 23, 2007, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge.
Mrs. Miall was a lifelong resident of Asheville and was the daughter of the late Samuel Hall Jones and Ella Mae McClure Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Miall, Sr., who died in 1989.
Mrs. Miall was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and was employed at Postal Accounts in the old Federal Building from the end of WW II until 1952. In 1968 she returned to work at the National Climatic Data Center where she stayed until her retirement in 1990.
She had been a resident of West Asheville her entire life until moving to the Laurels of Summit Ridge two years ago. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Sprinkle Bible Class.
Surviving are one daughter, Sharon M. Maynard and her husband, Don, of Greenville, SC; one son, John P. Miall, Jr., and his wife, Betsi, of Asheville; grandchildren, Leigh Howell and her husband, John, Brett Maynard, John Miall, III, Brandon Maynard, Kyle Maynard and Allison Miall; and one great-grandson, Caleb.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with interment to follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 587 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806, or to the Memory Assessment Clinic, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.
