Pauline Margaret Brown Young, 90, of 809 Sand Hill Road, Asheville, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Young was born in Haywood County was the last surviving of eight children of the late Zack and Lucy Hardin Brown. She was a retired nurse and a long-standing member of the Sand Hill Good Neighbor Club. She was an active member of Acton United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for 40 years. Surviving are one daughter, Gail Dowis and her husband Charles of Charlotte; two sons, Leon Morgan Young of Hendersonville and Jimmy Ray Young of Candler; seven grandchildren, Margaret Prakke and her husband Kevin of Cary, Deborah Agee and her husband Mark of Williamsburg, VA, Jamie Young, Roman Young, Christopher Young and Troy Young of Asheville and Cheney Dowis of Charlotte; two great-grandchildren, Haley and Luke Prakke of Cary, and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 3:00 pm Sunday at Acton United Methodist Church with the Revs. Paul Hacklander and Ted Francis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and suggest that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Acton United Methodist Church, 171 Sand Hill School Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.

    Please know that you, Charles, Marg, Deb and Cheney are in our thoughts and prayers. Nu Nu was a very special and sweet person and will be missed by all. I know you are thankful for her long and loving life and it’s not hard to see that you are following in her footsteps.
