Pauline Hyatt Duckett, 91, of Leicester, died on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. A native of Haywood Co. and lifelong resident of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Duckett was a daughter of the late Walter Stanley Hyatt, Sr., and Augusta Brookshire Hyatt. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Fred Oakley Duckett; three brothers, Walter, Jr., Jack, and Billy Hyatt; and three grandchildren, Kimberly Nanette Dickerson, Tanya Lynnae Duckett, and Mindy Lucinda Duckett. Mrs. Duckett was an avid gardener who loved flowers. She also loved listening to bluegrass music and clogging. Mrs. Duckett was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, where she loved the Senior Citizen Meals and fellowship on Tuesday's. She will be remembered fondly as a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Duckett is survived by her daughter, Freda Nodine and husband Donnie, of Leicester; son, James M. "Buddy" Duckett and wife Patricia, of Leicester; grandchildren, Jill Gillespie and husband Jonathan, of Leicester, and Kelly Monk and husband Travis, of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Taylyn Lucinda Monk and Sidney Estelle Monk; sisters, Helen Cox, of Asheville, Betty Green, of Fayetteville, GA, Marie Rickard, of Leicester, and Dixie King, of Leicester; brothers, Bobby and David Hyatt, of Leicester, and Mike Hyatt, of Candler; and several beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Duckett will be on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Revs. Bobby Smith and Wayne Carson officiating. Interment will follow at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Duckett's family wishes to thank Pisgah Manor Health Care Center and their staff for their loving care of Pauline.
