Pearce Roberts Weaver, Sr., 76, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Elizabeth Roberts Weaver and Judge Zebulon Weaver, Jr. and also was preceded in death by his brother, Zebulon Weaver, III, M.D.
Pearce was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher and was a retired vice-president with Webb Insurance. He attended Asheville city schools, graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1956, attended UNC-Chapel Hill and graduated from Western Carolina University in 1961. He was a member of the Rhododendron Royal Brigade of Guards and past Commander of the Knights of the Laurel and also was a member of the Seniard Creek Hunting Club.
Pearce is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Johnson Weaver; his daughter, Elizabeth Weaver Hayford and her husband, Stephen, of Bothell, WA and their children, Hunter and Maggie; and his son, Pearce Roberts Weaver, Jr., and his wife, Dana, of The Woodlands, TX and their children, Daniel, Chase and Grace.
Due to the restoration of the First Presbyterian Church sanctuary, the memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in Central United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Atrium of First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kitchen Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
Nancy and family, I am so sorry to hear of Pearce’s passing. Pearce
was such a nice person and was so.patient with me when he taught tennis.
He will be missed by many. If there anything I can do for you, I am
here for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.
Nancy, so sorry for your loss. Pearce was such a good and interesting man. Liked to hear him tell stories about the hunting club. He really liked the life he lived. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the family.
