Pearl Wilson Hawkins

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Mitchell Grover and Clora Martin Wilson.  She was married for 69 years to Monroe Madison Hawkins, who died November 7, 1997.    She was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter, Reva and her husband, the Rev. Bill Gillespie, of Leicester;  four grandchildren and their spouses, Gaylen and Beecher Allen, Charles and Brenda Gillespie, Jonathan and Tracy Gillespie, and Harold Gillespie;  two great-grandchildren, Justin and Brian Gillespie;  a sister, Christine Brown of Leicester and two brothers, Homer Wilson of Charlotte and Carlos Wilson of Raleigh.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Turkey Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Gordon Ball and Bill Gillespie officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carter Gorman, Dennis Brown, Charles Wilson, Conley Gillespie, Ted Hawkins, and Paul Hawkins.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Revis, Charlie Freeman, Jeter Kuykenadll, Larry Jones, Howard Gillespie, and Clennon Parham.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the Gillespie's residence, 653 North Turkey Creek Road.
