Peggy Jean Moss Crawford was born March 26, 1928 in South Carolina to William and Grace Holland Moss. She was married for 54 years to “Ed” Crawford, a proud marine who was deceased in 2000. One son, Thomas Edward, one daughter, Angela Jean Burton, and a brother, Jack Moss, are also deceased.

Mrs. Crawford is survived by her son David (Lisa), and her daughter Candy Hinman (Tim). She was lovingly called “Mamaw” by eight grandchildren (Heather, Carole, Christine, Christopher, Ryan, Cody, Lauren, and Carson) and thirteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a daughter-in-law Lynn, a sister-in-law Barbara, special friends Cindy and Pam, and three step grandchildren (Tyler, Bailey, and Grace).

Jean was a talented pianist, a member of Biltmore Baptist Church for 66 years, and served as a volunteer with Care Partners Hospice and ABCCM.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Mrs. Crawford will be held starting at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 6 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden. A private burial will be held at Calvary Churchyard. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.

  1. Thoughts and prayers are sent to the Crawford Family at this time. We spent our younger years living close together and being friends with their children. Condolences to Candy and David on the loss of your Mom.

  4. We only knew Mrs. Crawford for the 41 days my Mom was at Givens Health Center, but want to express our condolences to you for the loss of such a lovely lady. Mom joined her for many a dinner in the dining room there. Mrs. Crawford, always with a smile, was so welcoming and pleasant, helping Mom feel at ease. Her piano playing was comforting and a delight to all. We’re so sorry to hear of her passing, and want you to know that even for that brief time, Mrs. Crawford had an influence with her kindness and optimism.

  10. Her daughter, Angela, was one of my best friends in high school. I spent so much time at their house. She was a very kind lady. Sending loving thoughts and prayers to David and Candy.
