Phillip Charles Morgan, Jr., 52, of 29 Timothy Lane, Candler, died Saturday, April 7, 2001.

Mr. Morgan was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Phillip Charles Morgan, Sr. He graduated from high school in Dowagiac, MI and attended Southwestern Michigan Community College before joining the Marine Corps and serving one tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969 -70.

He then returned to Michigan and worked for Westgate Oil Co., Lenawee Fuels, and the R.W. Mercer Company. He came back to Buncombe County in 1996 to work with Morgan Energy Co.

He is survived by his mother, Beadie Barnwell Morgan; his wife, Sharon Leitz Morgan; one daughter, Carrie Morgan of Asheville; two sons, Phillip Charles Morgan, III of Asheville and Scott Morgan of Tecumseh, MI; two sisters, Jeanne McClure of Fredericksburg, MD and Deborah Ann Brown of Fairview; and two brothers, Tom Morgan of Waynesville and David Bruce Morgan of Tacoma, WA.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John M. Pagel at 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at Emmas Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Fairview.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 50 S. French Broad Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801, or to ABCCM, 24 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.

  2. I worked with Phil and really liked him. He told me when he left Mercer he was going to buy a Harley when he moved down south. I hope he did. I knew a lot of people that worked with and under Phils supervision and I never heard anyone say anything bad about him. I will miss him.

  4. Phil came down to N.C. with Jim Engle to visit with me for a week years ago. This is when we first met. Last time I saw him was when we were both pallbearers for Jim the first of this year, in Michigan. He was a very good friend, and will be missed very much. So sorry for your loss.

  9. I first met Phil when he started working with Thom and I was doing sevice work at Spatco.We worked together fixing problems at the Conv. King stores.We became good friends and business associates. I will miss him and my thoughts and prayers are with the family.
