Phyllis Lee Gilliam Owen, age 60, of Asheville, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Memorial Mission Hospital. She is preceded in death by her father, Emery J. Gilliam, her sister, Ollie Michelle Wynn, and her brother, Sgt. Adam K. Gilliam. She is survived by her step-mother, Sherry J. Gilliam, her former husband, Neal F. Owen; her daughter, Courtney L. (Joseph) Downey; her son, Zack Owen; two grandsons, Sawyer Z. Owen and Wyatt M. Stolhand; two granddaughters, Piper A. Owen and Zooey L. Hunt; her sisters, Rosemary (James) Murphy, Ann L. (Don) Davis, Billie Jo (James) Colley, Lynn (Christopher) Herren, Brenda, Olivia N. (Matt) Keller, and Amanda Gilliam; her brothers, Donald W. (Linda) Gilliam, Cory (Trish) Gilliam, Andrew (Julie) Gilliam, Joe (Alisha) Gilliam, and Dennis Gilliam. Memorial services will be held at 5 pm Friday, September 19 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phyllis's name to the Memorial Mission Heart Services Center in Asheville.

  3. Im so glad I got the chance to meet Phyllis and that she also got to meet and hold her grand baby Zooey Lee. I didn’t know Phyllis that well, but what I do know is she put her family first. She seemed to be a very caring loving woman. I feel honored to be somewhat a part of this family.
