Arden ~ Phyllis Lewis Bishop, 82, of Bishop Road, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at her residence. Born in Arcardia, FL, Mrs. Bishop lived most of her life in Arden and was a daughter of the late Oscar and Olive Sprinkle Lewis. Mrs. Bishop retired from Gerber Lab after 33 years as a microbiology technician. Survivors include a daughter, Toni Todd and her husband, David of Black Mountain; four sons, Calvin Bishop and his wife, Marlene of Asheville, Robin Bishop and his wife, Margaret of Rutherfordton, Sam Bishop of Boulder, CO and Zebulon Bishop and his wife, Dione of Arden; two sisters, Patricia Brinkley and Mabel Mungo, both of Asheville; a brother, Oscar Lewis of Asheville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with Rev. Edward Payne officiating.
