Porter Ledford, 70, of Goughes Branch Road, Leicester, died Saturday, September 22, 2001.

Mr. Ledford was born in Madison County and was a son of the late Jim and Della Hensley Ledford. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Gardner. He was retired from the Orthopedic Appliance Co.

He is survived by one son, Richard Ledford of Leicester; one daughter, Sandra Ledford; six grandchildren; close family friend, Dawn Calhoun and long time companion, Linda King.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday at Bell United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Roberts officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

Memorials may be made to Weaverville Dialysis Center, 329 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville, NC 28787.

    I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR OF PORTER’S PASSING. I KNOW HE HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT IN THE PAST FEW YEARS. HE WILL BE MISSED FOR SURE, BUT REMEMBER HE’S IN HEAVEN AND NOT SUFFERING ANYMORE. SOMEDAY SOON WE’LL ALL BE REUNITED IN HEAVEN WITH OUR LOVED ONES.

  3. I remember Porter the best by him being like a grandfather to me. He used to teach me stuff about farming and raising crops.I miss hearing him tell stories about when he was young.I used to go up to his house everyday after school and wait for him on the porch to tell about his past.And when I moved from my old house I wanted to come back and see him and stay with him. But he is in a better place now. He was my best friend. Love PJ

    I hope you know that Porter was a ‘special’ patient of mine. He loved to talk about living on the farm, his tractor and your poodle! I miss getting to leave him little notes on his chair for him to find when he came to dialysis.
    You were BOTH special to us @ WDC!!!!!!!! Freda
