Porter Orr Holder, 85, of Asheville, died on Friday, October 21, 2011, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late Douglas and Ina Sawyer Holder. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Mae Fox; second wife, Margaret Arizona Roberts; son, Dennis Holder; and siblings, Allie Lawing, Ira Holder, Juanita Ingle, Nilas Trexler, and Winfred Holder.
Mr. Holder had retired from Pony Express, and had most recently worked for Kerr Drug. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. He was also a member of West Asheville Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and a Deacon for 20 years.
Mr. Holder is survived by his daughter, Beverly Proctor and husband William; sisters, Vennie Russell, and Lyla Vess; grandchildren, Cynthia Gaddy and husband David, Sylvia Gunter and husband Joey, and Katherine Holder; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Dockery, and Lillian Gunter; friend, Jene McGlamery; and his dog, who loved him unconditionally, Skubi.
A funeral service for Mr. Holder will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery Chapel, in Black Mountain, with the Rev. Kent Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Veteran's Cemetery with military honors provided by the Buncombe Co. Veteran's Council and the National Honor Guard.

He was always such a sweet gentleman when he delivered my medicine.
I will surely miss him.

I worked for Porter at the Fast break convenience store from 1983-86. Porter was a wise man who I learned a alot from.Rest in Peace my friend!
