Ralph Lee Blackwood, Sr, 92, of 818 Emma Road, Asheville, died Saturday, December 7, 2002, at his residence. A native of Durham, NC, he was a son of the late Robert Hampton and Mary Elizabeth Pope Blackwood. Formerly of Chapel Hill, he worked as a machine operator for the Leggett Group Tobacco Company and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mr. Blackwood is survived by his wife, Louise Stone Blackwood; two sons, Ralph Lee Blackwood, Jr. and his wife Carol of Asheville and Robert Blackwood and his wife Louise of Melbourne, FL; six grandchildren, Kim Jacobs, Bert Blackwood, Randy Blackwood, Rick Kirkpatrick, Jon Kirkpatrick, Mark Kirkpatrick and nineteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Wes Sharpe officiating. A second service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesdat at Mt. CArmel Baptist Chruch in Chapel Hill with Dr. Dennis Hill and the Revs. Ron Boswell and Wes Sharpe officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

It was even more wonderful to be able to include my Jeff. Love and Prayers are with you Grandaddy, and we thank God for having you as long as we did!
