Ralph Lee Gasaway

Mr. Gasaway was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Virgil and Juanita Robinson Gasaway. He was an Army veteran and was a member of the VFW Post 891, the Weaverville Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, and was a coach and umpire for the West Asheville Little League. He was a retired Asheville policeman and was a member of Richland Baptist Church. More recently he worked at the Haywood Road ‘66” Station.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Shepherd Gasaway; one daughter, Angela Gasaway of Morganton; one son, Donald Gasaway and his wife Colleen of Asheville; one brother, the Rev. Jack R. Gassaway and his wife Sarah of Asheville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday at Richland Baptist Church with the Revs. Jack Gassaway and Lewis Bartlett officiating. Burial will be at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
Military rites and pallbearers will be provided by AmVets Post #665.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
Growing up together and working together with the freindship that will surely be missed.
We are going to miss Brother Ralph. Our prayers are with each family member.
