I appreciate all you did for the citizens of Asheville but especially the kids playing on the fields provided and supported by you and your staff under your leadership. You certainly left things much better than they were when you started. Butch, be proud of your dad – he was one of the good guys. May your family be blessed during the days ahead and rest assured he is in a better place.

He was a great guy, and a great Director of Asheville’s recreational and cultural amenities. He left us in a much better place than when he came to Asheville. Condolences to your family.

  4. Ray was always such a nice guy, always willing to talk, and made you feel good afterwards. It was especially fun to participate in the Father/Son golf tournament that he started. It brought families together for a fun weekend, something I will always associate with Ray. A great legacy. Our sincere condolences to the family.

  7. Dear Martha, ‘Butch’, (little) Robert and other family members. I don’t know why, but yesterday my mind went back about 30 years. I thought back to my internship at the Parks and Recreation Department. During my internship I stayed at Ray and Martha Kisiah’s home for a few months. What nice people, I felt very welcome and had a wonderful time. When I looked on the internet yesterday I saw that Ray had passed away and I was very shocked. I have many fond memories of Ray and Martha. Going to church together, playing softball, taking trips to Blue Ridge Parkway, enjoying all of Martha’s tasty snacks and much more. Rest in peace Ray. Rob Kleefman, the Dutch student.
