Skyland - Raymond D. Elingburg, 83, of 15 Atkins Street, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, January 25, 2000. A native of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Louis T. and Edith Dalton Elingburg and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Lee and Jim Elingburg. He was a longtime member and trustee of the Skyland United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Skyland Volunteer Fire Department. He was a retired employee of American Enka with 43 years service and then spent 11 years with the City of Asheville. He was very active in the Asheville and South Buncombe Youth Baseball Leagues. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Gregory Elingburg; three daughters, Anne Morgan of Candler, Shelia Elingburg of Asheville, Shannon Capps and her husband Leonard of Charlotte; six sons, Ray Elingburg and his wife Roberta of Weaverville, Charles Elingburg and his wife Mary Ruth of Arden, Earl Elingburg of Asheville, Carroll Elingburg of Greenville, SC, Tommy Elingburg of Greenwood, SC, Rick Elingburg and his wife Jan of Asheville; a sister, Mary Ann Bagwell and her husband Robert of Arden; three brothers, Don Elingburg and his wife Betty of Horse Shoe, Richard Elingburg and his wife Iva Lee of Candler, Ken Elingburg and his wife Carolyn of Candler; two sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Elingburg of Skyland, Dorothy “Dot” Elingburg of Arden; an uncle, Tom Dalton of Horse Shoe; two aunts, Irene Miller of Hendersonville, Clara Evans of Asheville; fifteen grandchildren, Julie, Jennifer, Steve, Joann, Tina, Lisa, Michelle, Debra, Scott, Mark, Kelly, Melinda, Greg, Cameron and Grayson; nine great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jenna, Phillip, Matthew, Jacob, DeAnna, Seth, Lauren and Heather and three step-great-grandchildren, Rick, Kenny and Sabrina. Services will be held Friday at 2 pm in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by Robert T. Young and the Rev. Arnie D. Corriher. Interment will be in New Salem Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Elingburg, Scott Elingburg, Mark Elingburg, Greg Elingburg, Robert Bagwell, Sonny Hollifield, Steve Morgan and David Rhodes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Skyland United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 697, Skyland, NC 28776.

  1. We are deeply sorry to hear about Mr. Elingburg’s death because we know how much he is loved by his family and friends. Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Elingburg and all of the Elingburg children and grandchildren. Mr. Elingburg has left a very loving and wonderful legacy with so many loved ones whose lives he touched.
