Arden, NC – Ray Sutton, 83, formerly of Columbia, SC, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007.
He was born July 11, 1923, in Chestertown, Maryland to the late Maude Louella Miller and Raymond Franklin Sutton. He was also preceded in death by his son, Shaw Bruce Sutton.
Ray was a veteran, having served in World War II as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. He was a graduate of Washington College, and was inducted into the college’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He worked for many years in pharmaceutical sales with Cutter Laboratories and later became the broker/owner of Ray Sutton Realty. He served on the Columbia Board of Realtors, was former president of the Columbia Multiple Listing Service and served as a member of the Richland County Tax Appeals Board. He was also a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church.
Ray is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dian Latshaw Sutton; his son, Kenneth Miller Sutton and his wife, Rene’; grandson, Matthew Sutton and his wife, Caroline; and granddaughter, Aimee Sutton; all of Arden, NC. Other survivors include his sister, Maude Moler of Lauderhill, FL; his brother, Joseph Sutton and his wife, Jane, of Rockville, MD.
The highlights of Ray’s life were his family and friends. His unconditional love and generosity toward others will be sustained in the memory of all who knew him. It was his wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the building fund at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Northeast Presbyterian Church, Friday, February 9th at 1:00 pm, with visitation following.
