Raymond Hoyle Roberts, 90, of 3517 New Leicester Highway, Leicester, died Saturday, December 13, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Garrett and Zona Bishop Roberts and was also preceded in death by his wife, Julia Frisbee Roberts, who died in June of 2003; a sister Ada Grindstaff and four brothers, Usher, Arlin, Uhel and Clayton Roberts. Mr. Roberts lived most of his life in Buncombe County and was retired from the NC Department of Transportation. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mary R. Taylor and her husband William of Fletcher; two sons, Harold Roberts and his wife Ellen and Kenneth Roberts and his wife Annette all of Leicester; three sisters, Alma Teague of Brevard, Vergie Roberts of Asheville and Fleta Wells of Leicester; a brother, Hubert Roberts of Leicester; four grandchildren, David Roberts, Jimmy Dale Roberts, Pamela Roberts and Lynn Abed. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Perry Brindley. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Union Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Caroline Robinson, 20 Wood Rose Lane, Leicester, NC 28748. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mr. Roberts care givers, Melissa Stanley and Karen Davis.
