Raymond O. Owenby

Raymond O. Owenby, 81, passed away at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center on Sunday, November 23, 2014. A native of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Hardy P. and Annie McAbee Owenby. He was also preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, two sisters, Geraldine Stepp and Bernice Hawkins and two brothers, David Owenby and Ronnie Darnell. Mr. Owenby was a member and Deacon of Cedar Mountain Baptist Church. His joy in life was his family, grand and great grandchildren, fishing, hunting and helping people any way he could. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his son, Randall Ownsbey and his wife, Colleen, of Fairview; two granddaughters, Stacie Pressley and her husband, Jason, and Jamie Newsome and her husband, Travis; five great grandchildren, Kyle Pressley, Bailey Pressley, Avery Pressley, Autumn Newsome and Aubrey Newsome and a sister, Marie Maxwell of Hendersonville. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, conducted by the Reverend Jimmy Page at Cane Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John F. Keever Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
