Rebecca "Becky" Partain Blalock

February 9, 1951 ~ May 22, 2023

Born in: Dallas, TX
Resided in: Asheville, NC

Rebecca Partain Blalock, formerly Rebecca Ann Partain, died at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Rebecca, who went by Becky, was a social worker, writer, and homemaker, who was born in Dallas, TX and moved around the country as a young person with her parents Sara Partain and Reverend William Partain. Becky entered college at the University of Georgia, and it was there that she met Barry Kenimer Blalock, who she married in Atlanta after finishing her degree. The couple relocated to Asheville two years later.

In her early years in Asheville, Becky was active in the Central United Methodist Church, the Asheville Art Museum, the Junior League of Asheville, and ABCCM, where she did outreach to Asheville’s marginalized communities.

Becky and Barry had three children–Lucas Blalock, Zach Blalock, and Corinne Blalock–and as a mother she devoted herself to their happiness and shaped their character through example.

In 2003, after her children had left for college, Becky took a position as a social worker at Meals on Wheels of Asheville, a job she loved and was dedicated to for the next 18 years.

Becky is survived by her husband, her three children, and her two grandchildren, Kenta and Kouta Blalock.

Services will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her memory at Meals on Wheels of Buncombe County:
