Asheville – Rebecca Mary Carter Leslie, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Becky was born in Jackson, GA, on June 8, 1919, the daughter of the late Robert Levi and Jenni Collins Carter. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Grover Lee Leslie, Jr.; an infant son, William Morgan Leslie; grandsons Michael Joseph Leslie, Jr. and Carter Thomas Cretella and two brothers, Robert Carter and Emmett Carter. She is survived by her six children, Michael Joseph Leslie of Hendersonville, Linda Leslie Weeks and her husband, Harry, of Hendersonville, Thomas Patrick Leslie and his wife, Madelyn, of Asheville, Stephen Carter Leslie of Lawrenceville, GA, Anne Leslie Cretella and her husband, Joseph, of Raleigh and Nancy Leslie White and her husband, Thomas, of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Kristen Leigh Leslie Ayscue and her husband, Ryan, of Apex, NC, David Patrick Leslie and his wife, Jessica, of Asheville, Whitney Lee Weeks of Hendersonville, Chase Karterman Weeks of Hendersonville, Katherine Elizabeth Leslie of Asheville, Joseph Michael Cretella of Raleigh, Spencer Leslie Weeks of Hendersonville and Morgan Leslie Cretella of Raleigh as well as three great-grandchildren, Jason Earl-Thomas Ayscue, Kaleigh Michael Ayscue and Isabella Marion Ayscue, all of Apex, NC A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 29, 2010 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church with Father Adrian Porras officiating and interment will follow at Calvary Churchyard in Fletcher. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ABCCM (where Becky volunteered for many years), 30 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801 or to St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 109 Crescent Hill Road, Arden, NC 28704.

  11. To the entire Leslie family, my most sincere condolences on the passing of Rebecca. My mother, Marion, sends her thoughts and prayers as well, and wishes that she could be there with you, but her health prevents her from making the trip. I spoke to her this evening and read her the obituary from the Citizen-Times, and she told me she will be in church here in Savannah tomorrow at 10 a.m., the time of the funeral.
    I will always cherish my childhood memories of visiting with the Leslies when I was in Asheville and the great times we had together back then. And I will keep your family in my thoughts and in my heart at this most difficult time. Jim Gannam
