Rev. Charles William Durrant
July 22, 1925 ~ September 7, 1999
A native of Manchester, NY, he was the son of Margaret Grace Baird Durrant of Hayesville and the late Charles LeRoy Durrant. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theatre, and was an Eagle Scout. He was the Director of the School of Anesthesia in Syracuse, NY continuing in Asheville, when he moved in 1964, for a total of 27 years. He was a Methodist minister for 22 years serving in various churches throughout Western North Carolina.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Elizabeth DePuyt Durrant; three daughters, Reverend Margaret (Peg) Buchanan and husband John of Black Mountain, Dr. Barbara Susan Durrant of San Diego, CA, Kathleen Rowell and husband John of Valle Crucis, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Cheryl Durrant of Hendersonville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Les Connell officiating along with personal reflections by anyone who wishes to speak. Burial will follow in Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team.
His family will receive friends 7-8:30 Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter Peg, 112 North Doughtery St., Black Mountain.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, Hiawassee United Methodist Church, Hiawassee, GA, or to the Ruth and Billy Graham Children's Center, c/o Memorial Mission Hospital.

Tom and I wish to extend our sympathy to each of you in the loss of your family member Charles. He was a fine gentleman and will be remembered for his support especially young people, and for his interest in helping and being of service to many other people.
