The Rev. Dr. James H. Whitted, 82, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the CarePartners Solace Center. A native of Burke County, Dr. Whitted was a Marine veteran. He served many mission fields and served as pastor of Erwin Hills Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Jane Murray Whitted, daughter, Cynthia Whitted; son, Harold Whitted (Daphne); grandchildren, Aundrea, Julie and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jayden, Dayvonn, Kenzie and Kiley; and brothers, Tommy, George and Randy Miller. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Mark Logan, Ricky Gibson and Rick McCarson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with graveside rites by the Rev. Ronald Roberts. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the Mission Fund at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 455 Hollywood Road, Fairview, NC 28730, or Sand Hill Baptist Church, PO Box 785, Enka, NC 28728.

  4. We are saddened to hear of Brother Jim’s passing but rejoice with you as he is now with the Lord Jesus Christ, who he served so faithfully for so many years. We thank God we were able to serve with him at times during recent years and want to assure you and the family that our prayers go with you.
    May the Lord grant you the comfort that only HE can provide. Jim was a great American but a great servant of God as well and was such a help to so many of us.

Because every time we talked to him or seen him he was always encouraging us and lifting us up to serve the Lord. We loved him dearly he is a great Bible teacher and a great mentor to this pastor. If I could use one word to describe Jim, it would be ‘Encourager’, because any time I saw him or talked to him, he was always encouraging me as a Pastor. He was a great man of God that loved Jesus. He was a great teacher at Bible College and a great mentor and friend to me. He was also a great pastor to Erwin Hills Baptist Church and the people loved him.   11. I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Whitted’s passing. I always enjoyed seeing him at the doctor’s office when I was receptionist there. What a nice gentleman. My prayers are with your family.

Brother Jim was such a blessing to us especially during the time he was at filling in at Maple Grove Baptist Church. What a great Christian and Servant of God he was. There will never be a time when I hear the song ‘New Grace’ that Brother Jim will not come to mind. We love you Sister Bobbie and will be praying for you and your family.

    I am so thankful to the Lord for putting Brother Whitted in my life. He has been an encourager, as well as, as a faith builder to me. His residence may have change but his influence will remain. What a man of God!

    I am deeply saddened to learn of Brother Jim passing. You have my deepest condolences and sympathy with the upmost respect and love. He was a great servant of God and to me, a great mentor and friend. He counseled me many times during my times of loss and sadness, and we shared many laughs together at TBBC. He was both fearless and compassionate and set the example for me and many others.

  19. Jim was a great preacher, soul winner, and set an example for all to follow. I had not seen him in many years but have thought of the times he spoke at Temple Baptist Church and Christian School. His zeal and love for the mission work he did in Scotland and other places was obvious and inspired others to follow our Lord wherever He calls us.Thank you Jesus for the life Jim lived here and the Eternal life he now enjoys with You in Heaven

  20. 2 Timothy 4:7 – ‘I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.’ This scripture that well applies to this man of God, an ambassador of Christ who did his utmost for His highest. Indeed he was a pillar of the church and has left a legacy of sound doctrine, steadfastness and tenacity; true grit, if you will. Ms. Bobbie, Bro. Harold, Ms. Daphne, Ms. Cindy & family, thank you for carrying on the love, testimony mercy & grace of Christ. We pray also for the peace that passes all understanding for all of you during this new chapter in your lives.
