The Rev. Marcus Ervin Hudgins, 90, of Asheville, died Friday, September 9, 2011, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Yancy Co., he was a son of the late James Dexter and Althea Roberson Hudgins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Clora Fisher Hudgins, in 1994.
Mr. Hudgins was a former driver for Haverty's Furniture, and was a retired finish carpenter. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII and Korea.
He is survived by daughters Mary Etta Meadows and husband Leonard of Alexander, Martha Ball of Candler, Brenda Moody and husband Tim of Robbinsville, and Sarah Worley and husband Sam of Travelers Rest, SC; sons Ervin Hudgins of the home, Randy Hudgins and wife Lynne of the home, Gary Hudgins and wife Bobbie of Alexander, and Lloyd Hudgins and wife Mary of Asheville; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and brother Luke Hudgins and wife Ethel of Leicester.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Georgetown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Davis and the Rev. Roy McPeters officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

I pray for the healing of your hearts and the uplifting of your spirit. He will be greatly missed. He loved his family very much. But he now has what he worked for all through life-He has seen his savior face to face. Oh, what a joy.
