Rhonda Jean Maxwell Latrella, 65, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek Nursing Home. Mrs. Latrella was born in Buncombe County to the late Samuel Percy Maxwell and Frankie Isabelle Abbott Maxwell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Peter James Latrella. Rhonda graduated from T.C. Roberson High School in 1970 and then went on and earned her Associates degree from St. Petersburg Junior College in Florida. She was a member of Biltmore Church. She had formerly owned along with her husband Peaches and Cream Deli, Sweet Specialities Bakery and P&R Dome Creations. She was also a beauty consultant with Mary Kay. Rhonda is survived by two sons, Doug Poehler and Peter Latrella, Jr.; a sister, Brenda “Britt” Shearman and her husband, Sam and their 6 children, 19 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; a niece, Brittany Vandputte and her sons, John and Sam; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and one soul sister, Carol Wilson. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Sam McLamb officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Enka. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
