Rhonda Jean Maxwell Latrella, 65, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at The Oaks at Sweeten Creek Nursing Home.
Mrs. Latrella was born in Buncombe County to the late Samuel Percy Maxwell and Frankie Isabelle Abbott Maxwell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Peter James Latrella.
Rhonda graduated from T.C. Roberson High School in 1970 and then went on and earned her Associates degree from St. Petersburg Junior College in Florida. She was a member of Biltmore Church. She had formerly owned along with her husband Peaches and Cream Deli, Sweet Specialities Bakery and P&R Dome Creations. She was also a beauty consultant with Mary Kay.
Rhonda is survived by two sons, Doug Poehler and Peter Latrella, Jr.; a sister, Brenda “Britt” Shearman and her husband, Sam and their 6 children, 19 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; a niece, Brittany Vandputte and her sons, John and Sam; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and one soul sister, Carol Wilson.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Sam McLamb officiating. Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Enka.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

My heart breaks for you. She was a bright star everywhere she was, endearing herself to you. Please know that prayers are with you during this time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you family. Rhonda was a wonderful lady, a sweet friend, always willing to be there for you. We had so many fun times. Will miss that sweet lady.

Sending heartfelt condolences to Rhonda’s family and friends. She was a beam of sunshine and she made everyone feel special just being around her. Rhonda will be missed greatly, but our memories of her will be a comfort always.

My prayer is that God comfort and bring His sweet peace to every family member of Rhonda’s. She will be missed so very much.
Rhonda always had a big smile and was so happy to see you no matter what time of the day or where you were. I will miss that smile and the love and happiness that went with it. I know she’s happy to be with her family in heaven, but she will be missed here on earth.
