Richard A. Davis, of Candler, went to be with our Lord on Friday, May 12, 2017, following an extended illness with lung cancer.
Richard was born in Haywood Co. to the late Alma Crum and Earl W. Davis. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Carter, Hilda Davis, Helen Burnette, Evelyn Hoffman, and Betty Jean Messer; brother, Ray Davis; and parents-in-law, Jesse and Mildred Tipton.
Richard spent four years as Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, and was stationed in Nova Scotia. He was employed at American Enka for 25 years in Nylon Maintenance. He retired in 2014 from K-Mart where he made lifelong friends.
Richard loved spending time with family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved attending ball games and activities, and also enjoyed bluegrass music. Richard attended Edgewood Baptist Church, in Candler.
Richard is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Pauline Tipton Davis; son, Keith Davis (Chantay); daughter, Kathy Osborne (Greg), all of Candler; sister, Wanda West (Joe), of Waynesville; brother, Earl Davis, of Asheville; grandchildren, Natalee Davis (Luis), of San Diego, CA, Chase Moore, of Boca Raton, FL, Evan Moore (Leah), of Anderson, SC, and Lindsey Altman (Daniel), of Candler; great-grandchildren, Dalaney, Lalani and Cali Martinez, of San Diego, Lakeyn Moore, of Candler; step-grandchildren, Melanie Osborne Stevens and Matt Osborne; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Special gratitude for the love, support, and many good years of good times to Elmer and Judy Tipton, Lloyd Tipton, Ken and Debbie Tipton and Sam Snipes.
The funeral service for Mr. Davis will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. The Revs. Louis Gibson and Ricky McCarson will officiate.
Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Oh my, Pauline, Ms. Pauline, I had you on my mind the last couple of days….I laughed at some of the times we had together at Kmart 3253…..like when the blizzard happened and Richard came and got me and a ‘few’ other employees and we managed to accomplish so much in that store in a short time….NO help, still had customers coming in, BUT WE did it……..I am so sorry for your loss….Please know that your in my thoughts and prayers…….sorry doesn’t take the pain away, but I know you and Richard believed in the God that I know that can……..love you Pauline…..praying for family and friends…..
