Richard Ellis “Dickie” Davis, 61, of Upper Glady Fork Road, Candler, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Davis was born in Waynesville and was a son of the late Theodore H. Davis and Myrtle Kuykendall Davis Guy. He was a former employee of NC State Mineral Lab and of Trinity Industries. He was a member of Hominy Valley Independent Church. He is survived by one sister, Sylvia Gilley and her husband Mike of Micaville; three brothers, Calvin LeFain Davis of Candler, Earl S. Davis and his wife Janie of Candler and Ronald Dean Davis and his wife Marie of Arden; one aunt, Marie Moody, one uncle Albert Kuykendall, thirteen nieces and nephews and sixteen great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Austin F. Watts officiating. Burial will be at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Bugg, Brian F. Davis, Barton R. Wiggins, David Baker, Michael A. Gilley and Russell Wyne. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

Dickie was a very nice man,and always wanted to please.He would come,and visit,and talk for hours.Tho we did not visit much in the last year or so,we still stayed in touch.I am a cousin,and a very close one to dickie.I loved him as if he were a brother to me.he always treated me extremely well,and will be dearly missed.May he rest in peace with the god above.
