Richard Guy Plamondon

October 4, 1914 ~ May 16, 2000
Resided in:
Asheville, NC
A native of Asheville, he graduated from Asheville High School at age 16. Although he had a college scholarship, his family deemed him too young to go off to school. He entered the workforce instead, working briefly for the A&P Company. While there, he met and later married the manager’s daughter, Alyce Moore.
Guy was an Army Private in World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre on Okinawa, Saipan and Guam. After discharge from the Army, he returned to work for the U.S. Postal Service, first as a railway mail clerk, then as a highway mail clerk and finally, as Supervisor of the Asheville Sectional Center. He retired after 32 years of service. He was active in several leadership roles in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Alyce, his wife of 52 years, died in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Ann Plamondon (Dr. Paul Rathburn) of South Bend, IN; a granddaughter, Joan Lowry-Kincaid (Dr. Shannon Kincaid) and great-grandson, Sebastian Kincaid of New York City; and his favorite niece, Jean Clayton of Asheville.
Friends and family alike enjoyed Guy’s woodworking and winemaking talents. His humor, strength, and spirit will be missed.
Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 20, at Forest Lawn Mausoleum with the Reverend Harry Woggon of St. George’s Episcopal Church officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team. The Asheville Symphony String Quartet will provide music.
His family will greet friends after the service.
Memorials may be made to the Arbor Terrace Residential Fund, 3199 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803, or to Alzheimer’s Association, 3 Louisiana Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
