Born in: Lincoln, NE

SFC Richard Lee Feutz, U.S. Army (Ret.), 79, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

A native of Lincoln, NE, Richard was a son of the late John Jacob and Kate Evangeline Howell Feutz. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Calimer Feutz, and brother, John Feutz.

Mr. Feutz proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, notably in Vietnam, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. He enjoyed talking about his travel during his time in the Army. He spoke fondly of a stop in Hawaii, getting his first car while in Albuquerque, NM, and going to shows at the club in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, reading the newspaper and keeping up with current events, watching M*A*S*H reruns, which he particularly enjoyed because Korea was his first overseas duty station in the Army. He also enjoyed visiting the gardens at the Biltmore Estate. In his later years, he very much enjoyed socializing at the senior center in Weaverville.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandy Feutz (Brian Repass), Kate Wagaman, and Cheryl Feutz, all of Asheville; and brother, Ron Feutz, of St. Augustine Beach, FL.

His family will receive friends on Friday, February 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The burial will take place in Maryland. Richard will be reunited with his wife, Nancy, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Council on Aging of Buncombe Co., 46 Sheffield Circle, Asheville, NC 28803
