RICHARD PAUL SAMS
ASHEVILLE ~ Richard Paul Sams, 45, passed away on August 19, 2009 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
He was a native of Newport, TN and the son of Hester Hensley Sams of Asheville and the late Arnold Sams.
Richard was employed by Skyland Automotive and was a member of Skyland 1st Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Judy Lawson of Asheville, Betty Padgett of Asheville and Marie Craig of Fairview; a brother, Johnny Sams of Hendersonville; a step-sister, Tammy Stone of Swannanoa; a step-brother, Tony Lawson of Asheville and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Skyland 1st Baptist Church with the Reverend David Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the church.
Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

I am so deeply saddened by Ric’s passing. He was one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure to know and I will keep his family in my prayers during this difficult time.
Ric was a great friend. Even though haven’t seen or spoken to him in several years I will always remember him as a special person and great friend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of sorrow.
Ric & I worked at Burger King together. My deepest sympathies to all the family.

I have had the honor and joy of working with and befriending Rick for the last 11 years at Skyland. Over that time he has offered me much advice and given me many laughs. The world needs more people like Rick, it would be a much better place. He will be deeply missed by all at Skyland Automotive.
