Richard Wayne "Rick" Walker, Jr., 53, of Monte Vista Circle, Candler, died Thursday, December 6. Rick was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Claudette Jones Walker and Richard Wayne Walker, Sr. He was a volunteer fireman, and Assistant Fire Chief at Beverdam Fire Dept., a Buncombe County Deputy Sheriff, a former manager at Asheville Packing Company, and a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Rick was the founding president of the Lt. Col. Felix Walker Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He is survived by his wife, Diane Hipps Walker; daughter, Lauren Leigh Walker; son, Ryan Patrick Walker and wife, Stephanie; grandsons, Jason Thomas Walker and Jared Levi Walker; sister, Karen Patricia Rhoades and husband, Randy; niece Courtney Anna Rhoades; and cousins, Tammy Harwood and James Walker and wife, Loretta. A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Louis Gibson at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Edgewood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, 61 Moody Avenue, Candler, NC 28715.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. As a classmate of ACA, it’s been a long time since I have seen him, but I have fond memories of my friend. My condolences, I will keep you and your family in my prayers during this difficult time.

I will be forever grateful for his work in the Sons of the American Revolution, particularly in his founding of and leadership in the LTC Felix Walker Chapter.
