Robert E. Gibson, 88, of Fletcher, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
Born in Teaneck, N.J. in 1927 to Harry and Bernice Gibson, he was the second of three children. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation from Teaneck High. The WW 2 veteran worked for N.J. Bell after service to his country and went to the R.C.A. Institute in NY. He had a career of 32 years in the graphic arts industry with the Harold M. Pitman co. of NY and was a member of the Sons of the Revolution. Retirement brought a move to Florida then to Fletcher, N.C. to be near family.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling with his wife, fixing things, playing bridge and building model airplanes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Hildegard Gibson; 2 children; a son, John with wife Margaret and two grandchildren, McKenna and Coner; and a daughter, Jody, with husband Dan; four grandchildren, David, Bobby, Emily and Christopher, and a sister, Bonnie Siebert of Oregon. Preceding him in death was his sister, Jean Brundage.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Calvary Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in the church garden. The family will receive friends in the Old Well Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Calvary Food Pantry.
