ROBERT E. “BOB” CONLEY Robert Edward “Bob” Conley, 68, of 156 Homestead Road, Candler, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 16, 2007, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals. Mr. Conley was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Carl J. Conley and Clara Davis Conley Painter. He was retired after 44 years as a photo engraver with the Asheville Citizen-Times. Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed time with his family, friends, and working with his Pet Supply Business after his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Rogers Conley; a daughter, Tammy Cole of Belmont; a son, Bryan Conley of Candler; three grandchildren, Daniel Cole, Lauren Cole and Zack Conley; a sister, Wanda Ramsey of Hendersonville; and a brother, Russell Conley of Asheville. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Austin Watts officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

  4. I was a coworker at the Citizen-Times for 25 years. As features editor I took many faded photos and snapshots to engraving and begged Bobby to try and get a printable image. He was always gracious and did the near impossible. He was smiling, friendly and generous. I am sorry he has been taken. I extend my sincere sympathy.

    Shirley my heart goes out to you… I know the loss of Bob is such a hard thing to face..

    Just remember all the wonderful times and the cutting up and his impish grin.. he loved to laugh and he enjoyed life and his family…

    Even though I didn’t see him often over the last decade I always thought of Bobby and how much Daddy loved him…. and how much he loved you and the kids……

    Now Bob can keep your Uncle Millard and my Dad company…. they will be having a great old time….

  8. This is a message for Shirley and i hope t reaches you. I am your Uncle Allie Richard Rogers Daughter Yvonne and i have been trying to find you for some time time now. My Dad passed away in February this year. He has suffered from dementia for the last few years and sadly he had destroyed lots of papers and addresses. I am sorry for your loss Shirley and i hope this message reaches you as i would love to here from you. I have tried on Ancestry but have not had any joy.
