Robert Emmett Shuford, Jr., 53, of 8 Tanglewood Road, Swannanoa, died Monday, May 22, 2000, in an Asheville hospital.

Mr. Shuford was born in Lowell, MA, and was an Army veteran and a former ironworker.

He is survived by his parents, Robert Emmett Shuford, Sr., and Marie Augusta Reynolds Shuford of Asheville; two daughters, Karen Lee Shuford of McCallen, TX and Teresa Shuford of Black Mountain; five sons, Joseph Robert Shuford of Lowell, MA, Anthony “Tony” Shuford of Missoula, Montana, James D. Shuford of Swannanoa, Kenneth Robert Shuford of San Antonio, TX, and Solomon Shuford of Manchester, NH; four sisters, Suzannah Jones, Ellen Marinoni, Catherine Cowan, and Cynthia Dotson, and a brother, Mark Shuford, all of Asheville, and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 4:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Tice officiating.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

  2. Teresa Shuford I’m sorry but your naive or no one ever told you but I’m Shelley-Jo oldest daughter and our sister her name is Crystal the youngest daughter. You wrote that you are the only child and if I must be honest I hope what in going to say doesn’t shock you. Dad Robert his children our siblings are Anthony, Kenneth, Solomon me, you and Crystal. Shame I never heard of you I wanted another sister, take care.

    • I was his last wife. In defense of my (our) daughter Teresa Lynn Shuford, she never knew about his other wives or children except for James, who caused much grief when he came to North Carolina. She did know about one of Bob’s siblings, his sister who was living in Fairview North Carolina at the time. That was a long time ago. Bob was not kind to either our daughter or me. We have scars to prove it. Mental and physical. I knew about all of you (his siblings and his families). I met his parents after Teresa was born and we had returned to North Carolina. I met his siblings. Cathy was kind. Sad about her daughter …

  3. I am sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I was married to him many years ago. I see he had a son Solomon, possibly named after my son, who he helped raise.Bob is at peace now.
